Creative Genius or BIG mistake?!

Hello followers, me again,

I have been thinking over the weekend about my new found love of sewing. Ok so I'm a beginner and maybe I am just testing the waters at the moment but I am loving all things fabric!!!

Don't get me wrong I will never stop making my vintage inspired jewellery collections, but now that the collections are becoming established, I wanted to spread my wings and learn something new.

Last week was my 23rd Birthday, Now I know some of you might be reading this and thinking 23 is no age, but in my head I have a bucket list forming. (A bucket list is a list of things you want to do before you die.)
It might seem a little morbid, but none of us actually know how long we will live so in my opinion you are never too young to start crossing things off your list and making the most of your life.

Here is a few things I can think of, off the top of my head that are on my list,

Learn to knit,
Learn to sew,
Learn to crochet,
Learn to make Bolognese sauce instead of using a jar,

The above are only some of the listings that require mastering a new skill there are many more things on the list that are personal to me, my family life and life in general.

So I took the bull by the horns so to speak and set myself up with a new sewing machine, an early birthday present from the parents. She is a little beauty! works like a dream ~ I have named my new sewing machine, sad I know but it had to be done because I began to start talking to her?! Mr.Floaty thought I was mad!

So I got my new baby home rigged her up, and away we went, the new dream team. Mr Floaty must have felt redundant! I made some small fabric keyrings to begin with, then some scent sachets, then I got myself a magazine, in it was the cutest owl pattern you ever saw. As a dreamer I looked and thought I can do that! As a beginner I had a go and was over the moon with the results! Tabitha and Molly were born. My first Owl babies.

Here they are in all there glory.
I embellished them with felt flowers, vintage buttons and east of india ribbon and was astounded with what I had achieved. The sense of pride and wonder when you have created something you are happy with is amazing. What's more both of my babies have sold and are going to a new home together! I have lots more owls in the pipeline, but Molly and Tabitha will always remain special to me just like my very first collection of jewellery.

So I guess my thinking this weekend was, Am I doing the right thing spreading my wings learning a new craft and marketing on my Facebook page or should I just stick to what folk know me for and that is that? As a bigger picture should you just be happy with your lot or strive to make things even better?

I don't have a definitive answer except I will carry on sewing because it makes me happy and if you are happy does anything else really matter?

Welcome/ Introduction/ I finally did it!

Hello Floatlings!

Well look at me Im finally writing my first Blog! Starting a blog was something I have been thinking about for a long time but first I had a to do list to make it happen,

1. Set my spell checker to English rather than American
2. Decide if people would actually want to read about the thoughts in my head
3. Finish the other to do list I had before I could start the to do list to cross off starting a blog on my 3rd to do list! (If that makes any sense)

As I type I have narrowed my custom order list down to 3 orders, the ones I cant start because I am waiting for parts to be delivered to finish that extra special piece I have been entrusted to design and make.

I am a jewellery designer. those of you that have found my blog by chance, I sell mainly on Facebook, here is my page http://www.facebook.com/FloatingVintageDesigns

I love what I do, Since starting FVD last April, it has gradually consumed my life, If I am not creating new pieces, I am thinking of new ideas, thinking of the new collection, making the taggies, sending invoices or networking to make my little business grow. My job is FVD, my life is FVD. I love it!!!

However.. my husband does not!

I recently got married to the man of my dreams, (no not George Clooney, he was busy) Mr.FVD is the loveliest man you will ever meet but he does not share my passion for all things vintage, all things facebook or indeed all things FVD. He periodically has a moan that I spend much more time on FVD work than I ever did in my previous job. He would be right! (I dont tell him that though)

For instance, On our honeymoon in December/January we were lazily sunbathing round the pool of our 5* luxury hotel that took us so long to save up for but was totally worth it, Mr.FVD was listening to his music and Mrs.FVD was busily writing ideas in a little notebook for the first new collection I was going to make once I was back in England. Now that is dedication! (or extremely sad) Winter Wonder was born, In 30 degree heat. ironic or what?

So that is me, A happily married, most of the time, creative workaholic but I really wouldn't have it any other way right now.

thank you for reading,

Mrs. Floaty lady x
