Hope, Faith and Charity
Good Afternoon Floaty types,
Welcome to another post from me wittering on, first things first, have you grabbed your brew? have you got your comfy slippers on? are you sat comfortable? tick tick tick, now we can begin!
Rather than rabbit on today I am going to show you some pretty pictures and introduce you a wonderful new page over on FB. Enjoy!
Sorry to start on a sad note...
I love hunting round charity shops, searching for a new piece of china to add to my stash to use at a craft fair or to discover a book that has already been loved but is just waiting to be loved again and its story re- discovered. There is a particular charity shop I will always support one very close to my heart and local to me. The Ashgate Hospice, the hospice that although nursed my Granddad in his final days I have some fond memories of, playing in the wendy house with my Sister as then we were too young to understand what was going on. Each Year the Hospice has to raise a huge amount just to Stay open and this year I've decided to make a selection of Jewellery leading up to Christmas and the amount raised will go to the Hospice, I will hand over a cheque when I visit for their Christmas Fair.
If you would like to learn more about the Hospice and the amazing Work they do please click this link:
http://www.ashgatehospice.org/ ~ there Motto is "Living for every day" Something I like to keep in mind.
So if you are still following here is the First pretty and how you might like to get your hands on it and give it a new home!

Tugged ~ this way that way....
Morning Floaty Folk,
Its been a while since I last blogged so bare with me!
This blog I wanted to discuss some thoughts and also share with you some exciting news re:FVD. (FVD-Floatingvintage designs my little page ~https://www.facebook.com/FloatingVintageDesigns/posts/406790832709213?ref=notif¬if_t=feed_comment#!/FloatingVintageDesigns)
As many of you will know I got married in December 2011, since then we have had 'the' talk about Babino's. Initially we decided we would wait and just enjoy us but even before the wedding I have yearned for a child someone to love and nurture, a new life to guide through the rough and smooth in this world.
It doesnt help when you get well meaning relatives asking, "so then when will you be giving your mum a grand-child?" We always give the well rehearsed answer "we are just enjoying being us for the moment thanks Aunty Pat"
The is no question that Mr.FVD and I wouldn't love a child, it is the practicalities that put us off, jumping in with both feet or perhaps another part of the anatomy..Where would we put him/her? Money? all the paraphenalia we would need, childcare, sleepless nights, (mr.FVD is a right grouch without atleast 7 hours!)
My wise old Mum once said to me "if you wait until you can afford a child, you would never have one" She is right but it doesnt stop us wanting to save and be able to give our child the best start in life.
So I guess the biggest question is When? Like when you find Mr.Right and you just know, will we just know when the time is right to have a child or will it happen and hit us like a 10 tonne truck? Either way I am very excited for Motherhood, when the time comes.
In other news....
Its Autumn the Leaves are starting to fall of the trees, Spiders are starting to invade my home and the heating has secretly been on already...All the beautiful Autumnal colours are starting to appear and I for one LOVE it (except the spiders) there is nothing more satisfying than being wrapped up warm with a hot drink while the wind and leaves blow about outside!
On Friday I released the brand New collection Autumn begins, On the first night alone many pieces were snapped up, I was overjoyed! There are still somepieces left should you fancy a peek to compliment your Autumn Wardrobe..Includingmy favourite piece, a beautiful eclectic charm bracelet..At only £9.50 it is an absolute steal!

Much Ado about nothing...
Hello Floaty folk,
Just a quick post to keep you updated with current affairs at FVD HQ. Put kettle on and get comfy.
Alas no pretty pictures in this blog, because as I type I am sneakily using my husbands laptop... My laptop is at the Tech hospital hopefully being fixed, there wasnt anything specific wrong with it, it just needs a clean up so it runs faster. Hence no piccy's as I am under strict instructions "NOT TO DOWNLOAD ANY PICTURES OR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT MAKE MY COMPUTER AS SLOW AS YOURS" Mr.FVD is so strict sometimes.. ;)
At present I am working on the new mini collection entitled Critter, a mini Collection in FVD land is around half the size of a fully formed collection and is tightly based around a smaller genre, with this one think butterflies, think Birds and the bee's and a dragonfly or 2 to boot...release date is looking to be around Friday.
In line with my new Year's resolution, I am still continuing learning new things, at present I am very much into polymer clay, I just made a stunning Autumn leaves Waterfall necklace but dont want to show yet as the Sun has only just started Shinning and who am I to Jinx it? (Yep im already thinking of Autumn/Winter, sorry but they are my favourite seasons)
Increasingly I am also thinking about expansion, dont get me wrong I love thinking up new collections and bringing them to you, however I want to Show FVD to the World not just FB land, I have contacted afew local gift shops about stocking my items in their shops and am awaiting responses, Im also in the middle of drafting an email to a fellow designer about a collaboration, something I think will benefit us both. Im also having that age old debate in my head, etsy or folksy, folksy or etsy? I know I need to choose one and develop it but which one will be beneficial to my little business? if you have any insights I would be more than grateful to hear your thoughts.
I will buzz off now, lots of crafting to do, shopping list to write, hoover to push around...
Until next time,
Much Love,
Mrs.Floaty x

Ok I know I said no pretty pictures, but this is from my hubbies album, Ive started thinking already of a first anniversary present for him, the first year is traditionally paper, and I was thinking I wanted to stick with that, so I am appealing for your help, what can I get the love of my life for our first anniversary to do with paper?

Polymer clay is a great medium to work with, Mr.FVD calls it adult Play doh and he would be right but Shhh..we dont want him getting too big for his boots ;)
Here is a sneaky peek of the latest items to come out of the oven....

I have been exploring using stamps and textures with clay and mica powders aswell as patina. What do you think? I cant wait to make the feathers into a gorgeous set!
A close up of the feather set. It shines beautifully in the light because of the patina. you will also notice the green flower buttons, Clay is great for making funky, bright buttons at the drop of a hat especially when you dont have any in your stash that will match your project!
Also at FVD HQ my jewellery rolls have become more and more popular, An ideal way to transport your FVD pieces on a weekend away, your summer holiday or simply to look pretty on your dresser. Here are 3 I have made recently.
I love working with gorgeous fabrics, dont forget to custom order a jewellery roll is the same price as a ready made one, still only £14.99, to see fabrics in stock check out:
As for the hubby, we continue to grow stronger during our first year of marriage, there have been some mega grown up chats going on recently and we are very excited for the future!
Until Next time, take care,

Big News and a bit of a catch up!
Hello Floaty folk!
Have you all had a fantastic jubilee Weekend? Did you do anything patriotic or were you just glad of the extra lie ins? Either way I hope everyone enjoyed themselves!
On Saturday I did a Vintage Fair in York, I met some lovely people and made sales which is always a bonus.
This was my stall.

I am always looking for new and innovative ways to display my jewellery and textile items so if anyone has any ideas to share please do leave a comment at the bottom. :D
After York, we had my lovely Parents in law over to stay, we indulged in wine, cider, Afternoon tea at Chatsworth Farm and Lovely food. I love entertaining and I am very lucky to have an amazing Mother and Father in Law like them. I also indulged in rather to many glasses of this...(Well it was Pimms Oclock...)
***Disclaimer, I did not drink Pimms whilst using Betty***
I managed to Make another Jewellery Roll, a gorgeous Red polka dot and Black contrast. It is very 50's. I am Absolutely loving making the Jewellery rolls at the moment. It made so much sense to start them, I make jewellery and then Some ladies would need something to store there favourite pieces in so ta da! Here are two I have made,
To see the insides of the jewellery rolls and to see fabric options should you wish to consider purchasing your own, please click this link, They are priced at a very reasonable £12.99 each.
BIG NEWS!
Right now we have got the updates out of the way, I can let you in on a little secret, I am now in possession on everything needed to start making my own Polymer clay beads! Last week I went on a short course to learn tips and techniques to make different canes and different pieces that can be done with clay. It was very interesting! I cant wait to take onboard some of those techniques and add some of my vintage twist into it to see what I come up with!
For a while now I have been interested in ways of making my own Beads, I looked at Polymer Clay, Precious Metal clay, Resin and Lampwork before finally deciding I wanted to start with Polymer clay. Although I will not rule out the other methods I wont be looking at those just yet.
I hope you will all follow me on this new route, I will continue to do new collections that include, Gemstones, Wirework and different beading methods and in the near future I will add some polymer pieces into the mix. It is all part of my plan to really push my own boundaries whilst offering you the most choice and best value I possibly can. I thank you all for your continued support encouragement and loyalty, without you my business would not continue to grow.
Much love,
Mrs.Floaty. x

My brand new, shiny, facetted, blooming expensive addiction, just call me Magpie!
Hello lovelies,
Just checking in with a post. have you got a coffee? good, sit down and take 5! The pots will wait, the toilet will clean itself and the postman will stay at the door ;)
Recently I've found a new addiction, no not betty, she was the last addiction! ;)
I dont mind admitting to you, I was bored, bored with making jewellery with the same old beads and the same old findings. I would sit down to go on my favourite suppliers website and be at a loss of what to buy, so much choice, nothing I wanted, nothing that made me "add to basket".
I took a little time away from jewellery and started sewing, in my mums words "I took to it like a duck to water" I love sewing! I have sold 4 of my cushions so far and even made some for family and friends. I very much want Mine and Betty's creations to be a hobby though. Something I do when I have some spare time.
I needed something to grab my attention and reignite my passion for jewellery though, I needed to get back the love and enthusiasm for all things beady beady as my husband calls it. I found it, I found what I needed, I couldnt believe it had taken so long to find, it might as well have jumped up and bit me on the nose, it was so obvious.
Gemstones.
When I first began FVD last year I dabbled in gem stones but never really took them seriously. Now I do, I spend so long looking at them once they come through the door, I rarely break into a strand unless I have the perfect project to make with them. They are a little more expensive that plastic or glass, which obviously means the piece will be more expensive, but I do believe it is worth it to have something made with natural real gemstones. My favourite so far is Poppy Jasper and Turquoise.

Creative Genius or BIG mistake?!
Hello followers, me again,
I have been thinking over the weekend about my new found love of sewing. Ok so I'm a beginner and maybe I am just testing the waters at the moment but I am loving all things fabric!!!
Don't get me wrong I will never stop making my vintage inspired jewellery collections, but now that the collections are becoming established, I wanted to spread my wings and learn something new.
Last week was my 23rd Birthday, Now I know some of you might be reading this and thinking 23 is no age, but in my head I have a bucket list forming. (A bucket list is a list of things you want to do before you die.)
It might seem a little morbid, but none of us actually know how long we will live so in my opinion you are never too young to start crossing things off your list and making the most of your life.
Here is a few things I can think of, off the top of my head that are on my list,
Learn to knit,
Learn to sew,
Learn to crochet,
Learn to make Bolognese sauce instead of using a jar,
The above are only some of the listings that require mastering a new skill there are many more things on the list that are personal to me, my family life and life in general.
So I took the bull by the horns so to speak and set myself up with a new sewing machine, an early birthday present from the parents. She is a little beauty! works like a dream ~ I have named my new sewing machine, sad I know but it had to be done because I began to start talking to her?! Mr.Floaty thought I was mad!
So I got my new baby home rigged her up, and away we went, the new dream team. Mr Floaty must have felt redundant! I made some small fabric keyrings to begin with, then some scent sachets, then I got myself a magazine, in it was the cutest owl pattern you ever saw. As a dreamer I looked and thought I can do that! As a beginner I had a go and was over the moon with the results! Tabitha and Molly were born. My first Owl babies.

Here they are in all there glory.
I embellished them with felt flowers, vintage buttons and east of india ribbon and was astounded with what I had achieved. The sense of pride and wonder when you have created something you are happy with is amazing. What's more both of my babies have sold and are going to a new home together! I have lots more owls in the pipeline, but Molly and Tabitha will always remain special to me just like my very first collection of jewellery.
So I guess my thinking this weekend was, Am I doing the right thing spreading my wings learning a new craft and marketing on my Facebook page or should I just stick to what folk know me for and that is that? As a bigger picture should you just be happy with your lot or strive to make things even better?
I don't have a definitive answer except I will carry on sewing because it makes me happy and if you are happy does anything else really matter?

Welcome/ Introduction/ I finally did it!
Hello Floatlings!
Well look at me Im finally writing my first Blog! Starting a blog was something I have been thinking about for a long time but first I had a to do list to make it happen,
1. Set my spell checker to English rather than American
2. Decide if people would actually want to read about the thoughts in my head
3. Finish the other to do list I had before I could start the to do list to cross off starting a blog on my 3rd to do list! (If that makes any sense)
As I type I have narrowed my custom order list down to 3 orders, the ones I cant start because I am waiting for parts to be delivered to finish that extra special piece I have been entrusted to design and make.
I am a jewellery designer. those of you that have found my blog by chance, I sell mainly on Facebook, here is my page http://www.facebook.com/FloatingVintageDesigns
I love what I do, Since starting FVD last April, it has gradually consumed my life, If I am not creating new pieces, I am thinking of new ideas, thinking of the new collection, making the taggies, sending invoices or networking to make my little business grow. My job is FVD, my life is FVD. I love it!!!
However.. my husband does not!
I recently got married to the man of my dreams, (no not George Clooney, he was busy) Mr.FVD is the loveliest man you will ever meet but he does not share my passion for all things vintage, all things facebook or indeed all things FVD. He periodically has a moan that I spend much more time on FVD work than I ever did in my previous job. He would be right! (I dont tell him that though)
For instance, On our honeymoon in December/January we were lazily sunbathing round the pool of our 5* luxury hotel that took us so long to save up for but was totally worth it, Mr.FVD was listening to his music and Mrs.FVD was busily writing ideas in a little notebook for the first new collection I was going to make once I was back in England. Now that is dedication! (or extremely sad) Winter Wonder was born, In 30 degree heat. ironic or what?
So that is me, A happily married, most of the time, creative workaholic but I really wouldn't have it any other way right now.
thank you for reading,
